It took a little longer than usual to finish today's treatment. I did not get home from chemo until 3:40 PM...That makes for a long day of doing nothing. I was going to read and work on my laptop, but after the first bag of benedryl I fell asleep. I drifted in and out of sleep the whole time, while listening to music on my i-pod. Jessie made me up a 250 song play list of the music she listens to. It is really pretty good. I could never embrace rap at all, but it looks like the young people today are getting back to music with melody and harmony. I'm sure Jessie would be surprised to learn that I like a lot of the music she listens to.
Yoko had the TV on yesterday morning and there was a special on Bob Dylan airing. God, he is/was an awful singer. I don't know how or why he became so popular. I mentioned this to Yoko and she agreed; but then she reminded me that we bought that Miro! Talent and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
The plan for tomorrow is golf in a charity golf tournament (8:30 shotgun) at Riverwood. I am playing with Chris Maher, Sabin Taylor, and Joe Craciuola. We should be a competitive team. I will be home by 2PM....in time to take a nap before we head down to the Morgan Stanley Christmas Party at Miromar Lakes. Sunday morning I am playing golf in my league; we plan to do some Christmas shopping in the afternoon.
I have been thinking hard about what to get everyone. I am having a hard time coming up with ideas. This is the weekend to get it done. Yoko is warning me not to wait till the last minute. Drop me a line if you have any suggestions!
You think it is an omen that my last chemo takes place onDecember 7th-- Pearl Harbor Day? Maybe its a good omen....the fight is just starting....take that you rat bastard cancer cells!

What artists did she put on your iPod?? I want to know!!
And I feel the same way about Johnny Cash as you do about Bob Dylan... is that bad
Bob Dylan is, was, and always will be an awful singer. I always missed his popularity, I supposed it was the lyrics not the singing that made him the icon....even that did not hold with me though.
I don't think people pay attention to Dec 7th. I has not escaped me in 40 yrs. but whenever I say it, it's met with ....ah yea I forgot. Time just removes so much.. Hard to believe Sept. 11 was 6 yrs. ago already, and dad's been gone almost 6.I guess in some ways it is good to put distance between, helps to give perspective. It's like radiation exposure...protecting yourself with the formula: time, distance, exposure.
You're through with treatment for a bit. Glad that you tolerated it so well. The labwork looks good.By Christmas your eating should be improved I would think. The girls will be home in 2wks. YEAHH. Get your shopping done. Mine has been simplified this year. Love to Yoko.

Speaking with radiation exposure: I met with a lady this week who is on her second marriage. She is 80 and has been married to the new husband for 30 years. Her first husband died of cancer at 37. He was on a ship patroling just offshore from Hiroshima in 1945. He saw the mushrooom cloud...so they were close enough to get radiation exposure. He died of lukemia. Amazing.
I didn't think I put any rap on there, but I suppose I could have! I realized that a lot of the music I listen to is from the inflence of you. I like easy listening mostly. Anything with some piano, guitar, or has some jazzy tune is what I like. Sometimes people Annie calls me an "old lady," and tells me to "sit in the parent section, Jessie," just because I listen to James Taylor. haha THANKS DAD!
Jessie:
You have good taste in music....but maybe I should not judge your generation by what you listen to...esspecially if Annie is calling you Ole Lady!
I have a patient who is 42 y.o NY city fireman at 911 the day of and days after who is being treated with for leukemia. In remission for 1 yr and relapsed very recently with leukemia. Time, distance exposure...
Often it is the luck of the draw.

p.s. might of been good for "startle effect" to laminate Sabin with your medical history "SHUT YOUR MOUTH" kind of moment.
Janie:
Sabin thought the chemo comment applied to me was funny; he would never have said it had he known that I AM a chemo radiation patient! Eventually he will see this web site and he will have his "SHUT YOUR MOUTH" moment. I could not do it at the time...I have said it here.
By the way, I also have a client who was a fireman on 9/11...worked at ground zero for 40 days. Now he has cancer of the esophagus. I am affraid that many that worked on the pile are going to come down with all sorts of illness...cancer chief among them. The death toll from 9/11 is still rising...just no one is counting any more.
Well we all agree, Bob Dylan sucks!!!! I have NEVER understood his appeal...he is just awful. I think the only people who could possibly like him, have to be tone deaf!
