Weekend Rotary Duty -- Entertaining Gwen Le Barre

I finally came down after being up all night Friday. I got to bed at 7 AM Saturday morning and was able to sleep until about 11 AM. At 1:30 PM Yoko and I went to pick up our Rotary GSE student, Gwen Le Barre, who is from Britany, France.

Gwen is a single young man, age 31, who has a business as a dairy farmer. He produces about 200,000 gallons of milk a year on a farm that is about 185 acres. The farm has been in his family for 250 years or so. We spent the afternoon at the house talking and watching football. I, of course, was practicing my French on Gwen and telling Steve Martin stories about "going to Paris, France." Thankfully, Gwen has a sence of humor. Yoko had made all kinds of finger food to snack on while we watched the college football games; for dinner we had ribs and chicken on the bar-b-que.

I was feeling pretty good until dinner. I have been having a harder time eating because of the radiation. I was able to eat dinner, but then I lost it at about 10 PM. Yoko fed me some watermelon and I was in bed and asleep by 11 PM on Saturday night.

Sunday we took Gwen to Ft Myers and had brunch at my golf club, Verandah. I had eggs benedict, fruit, etc. and felt fine. After that we went down to a new shopping center in Estero called Coconut Point and walked around the stores down there. This is a brand new gigantic outdoor shopping mall. We could not stay took long as we had to make our way back home by 3 PM in order to to bring Gwen to Rotonda at 4:30 for a reception for the GSE Team sponsored by the Placida Rotary. We stayed for the reception (where they had heavy appetizers) and were home again in time to watch football at 8 PM. I was finally tired and by 9:30PM I decided to get to bed. I slept like a baby through the night and was up at 6:30 this morning to take Gwen to his ride up to Sarasota. (He is working on a dairy farm in Sarasota this week, observing how we operate a farm like his here in the US.)

After dropping Gwen off, I was off to radiation this morning and made it into the office by 9:30 AM in time for my first appointment. It looks like this is going to shape up to be a busy week with appointments and hopefully some new business. The weekend just flew by and was over before I knew it. I am looking forward to getting back to work today and buckling down to get something accomplished.

I was grateful to see so many comments and words of encourgagement on my last posting. I hope you are enjoying reading this stuff as much as I am enjoying writing it. I promised myself I would try to do at least one a day. With more time, I would do essays, but for now I will stick with the "stream of conscious" style, which tends to ramble, I know.

You might think about asking Dr. Lunin for some Reglan. Reglan helps to move food through your system and may give relief for the vomiting. Are you mostly sick the day of chemo/radtx? It doesn't sound like your nauseated, just vomiting. Reglan should not cause any other problems. Be sure he knows what's happening. You could also ask the Rad Onc. he's able to prescribe too.
